Call for Scores

New narratives through new music at SMF 2027: “Tapestry: Cultural Threads of America”

Submissions due: March 15th, 2027 at 11:59PM CT

Details:

Compositions must be scored for: voice (any type), flute, saxophone, & piano. Pieces written for incomplete or alternative instrumentation are ineligible and will not be considered.

Duration: 5-12 minutes.

1 Winner* will receive: $500 (USD), a world-premiere at SMF 2027, and a live video recording of the work.

Up to 2 Honorable Mentions will be selected to receive a world-premiere performance at SMF 2027.

We are especially interested in the untold, unique musical stories of BIPOC and underrepresented composers and works that connect to the 2027 festival theme.

Entry Rules:

  • Create your scores with music software (Dorico, Sibelius, etc.)

  • Submit:

    1) A completed application form (above!)

    2) Scores as PDFs via email to smfchambermusic@gmail.com

    3) Recordings as links or mp3 files

  • Multiple movement works should be submitted as a single PDF/mp3 file

  • Maximum 2 submissions per composer.

  • *Winner must submit W9

  • *Selected winners and Honorable Mentions give SMF non-exclusive rights to perform their works at the next festival and record their works for up to three years.

  • Previously winning pieces are not eligible.

All U.S. copyright standards apply. Secure legal rights to reference another’s work (text, poetry, etc.) when applicable PRIOR to submitting to SMF.
